Re: What can we do to liven this place up? « Result #1 on Dec 4, 2008, 5:20am »
I appreciate your understandingness I had to cancel many of the projects I had for this forum and try to find different ways. Being impossible to attach a true site to the forum, I'm considering the opposite thing. Possibly with a bit of word-spreading we can invite more people to the group and make the old ones find a reborn interest. I know my current private life isn't helping in the search-for-available-time quest, but I'm positive for the next future (I know I said the same things one year ago...)

The site is too quiet, actually. I'm feeling partially responsible for that, since I'm experiencing a very full life. My goal (possibly within 2008) is to rejuvenate this forum and hopefully joining it to a true site with lots of materials. These things require of course a lot of available time (which I currently haven't got), but I'm feeling positive for the next future. Perhaps inviting Golan would be a good idea

Hi Bluejedi360, I'm happy to see you here. You are one of the few and proud owner of a 3DO. Why don't you create a topic to tell us a bit about this wonderful machine? I've just created a section to host all the retro system which haven't a dedicated thread yet.

Sorry, I'm not sure to have understood well. Do you want some combined machine? Such as a PC which also works as an Apple? Or you just want a PC which has the shape of an Apple II? (I know of PCs inside a C64, so it shouldn't be impossible)
BTW, why don't you tell us something about your job? It sounds very interesting. Is it a computer museum?
Preservation Project « Result #12 on Mar 10, 2008, 4:07pm »
Hi all, am a newbie around here and wanted some input from some folk in the know. I work for a Museum as a volunteer and am about to start a project involving an Apple II system. In musuem terms, 25 (or so) years is nothing, in computing terms this is ancient. The Apple drives some hardware, what I would like to do is to take the Apple out and replace it with a PC BUT I would like to preserve all the data somehow.
It is this bit I am unsure of, do I image all of the disks so that they may be re-written if needed using something like Catweasel or do I aim for the files to be used in an emulator? Are there other methods I am not even thinking about?

Some of my favorites:
Axelay : Unlike Amiga and Megadrive, good shoot'em ups for SNES were few and far between,so Axelay was a breath of fresh air.Bonus points for the outstanding use of Mode7.
Earthworm Jim : Possibly the most funniest platformer I ever tried thanks to the wacky character design.Luckily the gameplay was up to the excellent presentation.
F-Zero : Awesome.Why Nintendo isn't working on a DS F-Zero game is beyond me.

Look who's showing up... I'm glad to hear back from you. And I'm even more glad you can't see me blushing. I'm honored to take care of this baby, and I will try my best to make it grow up strong and proud. But Wallace, you have to promise you won't disappear again, ok?

(Wallace peers in)
I have finished my book. It sits patiently on my agent's desk. I can now hand over keys (should have done this long ago) of Retroland to Kusarigama (Wallace hands over small digi-key).
I apologise for the disappearing act, but I have had to commit my time and energies at home and in work.

My real idea is the construction of a true site, where this forum is only a part of it. We already have enough material to build a museum section. But still, without Wallace we can't do much.
Anyway, you can count on me on helping out with writing articles, especially nostalgia related items about the golden era. I can be very prolific if I am motivated enough and would partly fulfill my yearning of being a writer.
The Museum sounds like a good idea. Let me know how I can help.

Ops. I forgot to answer to your last question. Wallace lives in a place where there's no internet connection. I tried in the past to send him some emails, but they were all rejected, due to a too-full mailbox. The man knows how to disappear...

I used to send some mails with newest updates, but since we have only a forum there isn't much to update. My real idea is the construction of a true site, where this forum is only a part of it. We already have enough material to build a museum section. But still, without Wallace we can't do much. The link I use at Lemon is the best non-spam thing I could think of. I can contact the other mods as well, but I'm sort of afraid they lost part of the interest in this forum. Anyway, whatever we can do, it's welcome.
These pretty much should cover you if vtunnel decides to vanish.
I usually choose circumnavigators without the word proxy in the url so that IT doesn't block that word and thus blocking about 90% of the web proxies.
So back to the question:
What should we do to liven things up around here.
If it wasn't for your profile on Lemon64 I would have totally forgotten about it. We can't promote it too vigorously because we would get flamed for spamming.
Can't you contact the other moderators to remind them of this place. They can call in a couple of people and if we get about 10 regular posters then this place would look livelier.
I know that Lemon64 is way out of our league but it's always nice to come to a relaxing forum with fewer visitors.
Do you keep contact with Wallace? What's that Scottish dude up to these days?

Yes!!! Thank you dude! Vtunnel is the only one which seems to work properly, the other ones have all some problems. But thank you mate, you are my hero!
BTW, you haven't told me yet if you found some Fiat Uno with "tettuccio" (BTW tettuccio means "small roof", it's a way to indicate the small door on the car's roof)

I was in the same predicament as you mate until I found about the circumventors and web-proxies. As I said, keep images off as that way you will not download lot's of excess traffic that would be visible to the IT dept. This way you would be flying under the radar so to speak. The surfing isn't as enjoyable as much but then again you can always right-click on the image icon and select show image if you want to see a certain picture.
